Manatee Glens is opening registration for its 11th Annual Walk for Life. The event takes place in Sutton Park in Palmetto on September 28, 2013. Walk for Life is?dedicated to depression awareness and suicide prevention. The event includes a 5k sanctioned run, a scenic 5k walk, music, food, entertainment and an emotional butterfly release. This year, Manatee Glens is kicking off the event?with a Family Fun Day on Friday, June 28 at Jessie P. Miller Elementary School.
Manatee Glens is also initiating a video competition to help generate enthusiasm for the event and encourage new teams to sign up and more donors to contribute.
The theme of the videos is ?Why We 5k.? Entrants are encouraged to create short videos? (45 seconds to 3 minutes long) that are informative, entertaining, authentic and inspirational. Winners will be announced in the categories of ?Most Spirited,? ?Most Inspirational? and ?Best Overall.? The judges will be community and business leaders. The deadline to submit videos is July 26, 2013.
The Family Fun Day, on Friday, June 28, will be held at Miller Elementary School, 601 43rd Street West, Bradenton. Children, adults and families are welcome to enjoy
food, games and fun while they find out more about Walk for Life and the video competition. The outdoor event takes place from 3 to 6 pm. There?s no charge for the event.
?While depression and suicide are serious, weighty issues, we want to encourage people??especially teens, young adults and families?to talk about them, ?explained Manatee Glens Chief Development Officer Janet Ginn, CFRE. ?The videos are an upbeat way to open the conversation and draw more people in.?
The top videos will be shown on the Manatee Glens web site, www.ManateeGlens.org .? The creators of the ?Best Overall? will be invited to lead the Walk on September 28. For information, rules and entry form, please visit www.ManateeGlens.org.
Registration ?for the Run/Walk for Life is $25 for adults and
