JUPITER, Fla. (AP) - Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is trying to show discipline as a hitter, choosing a diplomatic description of the franchise's latest dismantling.
On Friday he called the offseason "interesting."
Irate fans have chosen even more colorful adjectives, and within hours of the Marlins' blockbuster trade last November that completed their purge of players, Stanton tweeted he was angry about it.
As the Marlins prepared for the first full-squad workout of spring training, Stanton said he's ready to turn the page.
Stanton will be eligible for arbitration in 2014 and for free agency in 2016, when he could sign with one of the big-spending teams in his native California. But he said his relationship with Marlins management isn't beyond repair.
