As expected, the iPhone 5 is now past its first 6 months and appeal is dropping ever so slightly. The latest market research by Kantar World Panel shows iOS interest has dropped year-on-year. In the US, iOS market share dropped from 44.6% in Q1 2012 to 43.7% in the same period a year later. The story is similar in the UK, where iOS historically isn?t as strong. In Britain year-on-year market share dropped by 1.4%.
The telling differences between the States and the UK are made clear when you take a look at Android?s market share in both countries. Google?s platform only grew by 1.4% in the US, whereas the British were seemingly dropping BlackBerry by the shed-load in favor of an Android device. BlackBerry?s share dropped by more than 10%, and Android grew by just over 9%.
It?s worth noting that in the UK, the Z10 was launched half way through the quarter. It?ll be more interesting to see how the BB10 OS is doing during its first full quarter when the results come through in a few months? time.
The most encouraging news is for Windows Phone. The platform is still fairly new to market, but its growth is steady. Windows? share grew in both markets.
