Francis has spent the last few days getting used to his new Pope shoes and performing all of his new Pope-ly duties. Yesterday it was the easy task of wooing some journalists with calls for church austerity, and a few jokes.?

Today, it was giving his first Angelus blessing to 150,000 spectators in St. Peter's Square on Sunday morning. So, you know, no one was there, really. That's not a big crowd. No sweat, Franky. You can do this.

And he did! He talked all about mercy and people needing to be nice and stuff, as Popes do. "A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just," he said. Mercy was the word of the day for Francis, who centered his message around the classic "let he among you who is without sin, cast the first stone" passage of The Bible.?"I think even we are sometimes like these people, who on the one hand want to listen to Jesus, but on the other hand, sometimes we like to stone others and condemn others. The message of Jesus is this: mercy," Francis told the crowd. People seemed receptive to the idea.?
